Christmas already? Yep! Sunday after next is the first day of Advent!
Certainly the Christmas season brings hope, peace, love and joy, but maybe you’re approaching the end of this year feeling a bit like Charlie Brown…maybe a little confusion, regret, or disappointment. Maybe you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed with the “stuff” of life and it’s making it difficult to focus on the “meaning” of the season before us.
We all need a good friend like Linus at times that can give us some perspective filled with truth and hope that encourages us.
“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11
I’m feeling the need of encouragement…for myself and for you. When done in faith, encouraging words not only build others up, but point them to the future of heaven and to the sufficiency of our Savior.
Godly encouragement is not simply saying sweet words to make someone feel good about themselves or giving someone a pep talk. Biblical encouragement is urging one another in the truth, and reminding one another of the infinite goodness of the Gospel.
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10:23-24
